Make it light

 

Fishing during the summer does not need to be as serious as during the high seasons. The summer time is usually a more relaxed season that is spent with the family. For me it is quite difficult to imagine anything more relaxing than being out at the sea admiring the sunset and spotting the feeding fish.

Using lighter equipment to attract the smaller fish can also provide fine and memorable experiences. Fishing with reels sized 1000-1500 and quite soft 6'-7' rods make the fishing light, enjoyable and full of great experiences. The summer time is excellent for finding fish that are hard to catch at other times, for example ides. A four-pounder ide hits nice and hard and bends the light rod just like its bigger blue water cousins.

When the water is warmer the fish are more spread. Easy fishing is to find rocks, reefs or small islands under the wind and to fish what is on the menu. Usually it is easy to find pikes, perches and maybe ides and zanders too from the same spots. Big mamas are still quite rare but when the right weather conditions and the ideal fishing methods meet it is possible to find them as well. The right time of the day plays a big role. It is most effectual to fish during sunrise and/or sunset, when the fish often rise to more shallow waters to feed. At this time of the day the wind has usually died away which makes it possible to just relax and enjoy the fishing.



The fun and efficient summer fishing is best done, for example with the small Wake Jigwobblers, the small Wake Soft Spoon, surface lures or with a spinner customed with a grub (more of this later). Reel the lures in quite fast, near the surface. Spice the swimming action with casual pauses.
